Final rites were held for Charles A. Davis in the Powell Masonic lodge hall Friday Nov. 10, 1961, at 2 p.m.
Burial was made in the Byron cemetery beside his wife under the direction of the Easton Funeral Home. Pallbearers were oldtime Penrose neighbors Ralph Jones, Walter Keller, Burchell Hopkin, Fred Hopkin, Charles Shumway and Wilson Lindsay.
Music for the services was provided by Mrs. Paul Sandbak, Mrs. John Krause, Mrs. Ross Copenhaver, Mrs. Wayne Krause, Mrs. Jack Lewis and Mrs. Glenn Stutzman who sang,
"The Old Rugged Cross" and "Beyond the Sunset". They were accompanied by Mrs. Russel1 Moore.
Charles A. Davis was born October 4, 1879, in Riverdale, Idaho. He died Nov. 6, 1961, in Casper. He was raised as a Master Mason in Absarokee Lodge No. 30, and became a 32-degree Mason. His enthusiasm and beliefs in Masonry led to his two sons being raised as Master Masons in the same lodge, one being a Past Master. He also inspired a nephew to become Master Mason, who became Deputy Grand Master of the State of Missouri. In his early years, he was affiliated with the Church of Jesus Christ of Lat-ter-day Saints.
Mr. Davis came to the Penrose community as a pioneer rancher. He was united in marriage to Sarah Elizabeth Cowley, in 1907. She preceded him in death in 1923. To this union were born four sons, James, George, Oliver and Carlton, and one daughter, Dessie. He was preceded in death by four brothers, four sisters, with one sister surviving.
He operated the livery stable in Garland for several years and had the distinction of moving the first oil rig into Elk Basin by horse and wag-on. After disposing of this business he sought a career in law enforce-ment. He was the fifth sheriff of Park County. He also served as Revenue Agent with headquarters in Cheyenne. He served the people of Natrona county as deputy Sheriff at Midwest and as a security guard on the Pan American pipeline. At the time of his death he was employed as security officer for Casper Commissary.
Out-of-town relatives here for the funeral were Mrs. Mae Flaherty of Long Beach, Mr. and Mrs. Ira Davis of Bedford, Wyo, and Mr. and Mrs. C. H. Davis of Afton.
